Bladder Tumor Resection (TURBT)

Patients diagnosed with bladder tumors require a biopsy and resection of the tumor to determine the grade, stage, and hopefully to remove the entire tumor.

During this procedure, a scope with a cautery loop is placed into the bladder under anesthesia and the tumor is identified, resected, and sent to pathology for evaluation. The base of the tumor is cauterized to prevent bleeding and depending on the size and depth of the resection, a catheter may be left in the bladder to allow it to heal.
